The OpenBSD developers have announced the availability of a new stable release of their security-oriented operating system. The new release, OpenBSD 6.1, introduces bug fixes, several new or improved hardware drivers and security enhancements to the system installer. Install sets are now fetched over an HTTPS connection by default when using a mirror that supports it. The installer now considers all of the DHCP information in file name, boot file-name, server-name, tftp-server-name, and next-server when attempting to do automatic installs or upgrades. The installer no longer adds a route to an alias IP via 127.0.0.1, due to improvements in the kernel routing components."
26.07.2017

The FreeBSD Release Engineering Team has announced the availability of  FreeBSD  11.1. The 11.1 release is the latest stable version of the venerable FreeBSD operating system. The new version features updates to the project's compiler and linking tools, ZFS now supports compressed cache and the efivar utility has been added for managing UEFI variables. "The FreeBSD Release Engineering Team is pleased to announce the availability of FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE. This is the second release of the stable/11 branch. Some of the highlights: Clang, LLVM, LLD, LLDB, and libc++ have been updated to version 4.0.0. Many third-party (contributed) software updates, such as the Elf Tool Chain, ACPICA, libarchive(3), ntpd(8), unbound(8), and more. Support for blacklistd(8) has been added to OpenSSH. The zfsbootcfg(8) utility has been added, providing one-time boot.config(5)-style options for zfsboot(8). The efivar(8) utility has been added, providing an interface to manage UEFI variables. Support for Microsoft Hyper-V Generation 2 virtual machines has been added. The ena(4) driver has been added, providing support for "next generation" Enhanced Networking on the Amazon EC2 platform. The NFS client now supports the Amazon Elastic File System (EFS). The EFI loader can now access remote files via TFTP in addition to NFS as a run-time configuration option. ZFS now stores compressed data in cache, improving cache hit rates and performance."
The FreeBSD Release Engineering Team has announced the availability of a new update to FreeBSD's 10.x production series. The new version, FreeBSD 10.4, includes support for eMMC storage and expands Wake-On-LAN support for Intel networking cards. In addition, the GNOME desktop has been updated to version 3.18. "The FreeBSD Release Engineering Team is pleased to announce availability of FreeBSD 10.4-RELEASE. This is the fifth release of the stable/10 branch, building upon the stability and reliability of 10.3-RELEASE and introducing new features. Some of the highlights: 10.4-RELEASE is the first FreeBSD release to feature full support for eMMC storage, including eMMC partitions, TRIM and bus speed modes up to HS400. Please note, though, that availability of especially the DDR52, HS200 and HS400 modes requires support in the actual sdhci(4) front-end as well as by the hardware used. Also note, that the SDHCI controller part of Intel Apollo Lake chipsets is affected by several severe silicon bugs. Apparently, it depends on the particular Apollo Lake platform whether the workarounds in place so far are sufficient to avoid timeouts on attaching sdhci(4) there. Also in case a GPT disk label is used, the fsck_ffs(8) utility now is able to find alternate superblocks. The aesni(4) driver now no longer shares a single FPU context across multiple sessions in multiple threads, addressing problems seen when employing aesni(4) for accelerating ipsec(4). Support for the Kaby Lake generation of Intel i219(4)/ i219(5) devices has been added to the em(4) driver...."
Cześć. DragonFly BSD 5.0 —  wersja [tt]5.0.0[/tt], wydana 16. Października 2017 r., która zawiera wstępne wydanie dla HAMMER2 uważane za eksperymentalne i generalnie nie powinno być jeszcze stosowane w maszynach produkcyjnych etc. Warto zaznaczyć, że instalator nadal będzie używał systemu plików UFS, nawet w przypadku instalacji HAMMER2, ze względu na " the /boot partition is typically very small and HAMMER2, like HAMMER1, does not instantly free space when files are deleted or replaced." (Więcej informacji, dot. tej zmiany, znajduje się w oficjalnym ogłoszeniu wydania.)

IPFW przeszedł liczne aktualizacje, i teraz oferuje lepszą wydajność.

02.04.2018

OpenBSD  project has released OpenBSD 6.3 which introduces SMP support on the ARM64 architecture, includes ISO support in the virtual machine daemon (vmd) and makes memory allocation more efficient. There have also been several updates to the LibreSSL and OpenSSH secure communication tools: "LibreSSL 2.7.2 - Added support for many OpenSSL 1.0.2 and 1.1 APIs, based on observations of real-world usage in applications. These are implemented in parallel with existing OpenSSL 1.0.1 APIs - visibility changes have not been made to existing structs, allowing code written for older OpenSSL APIs to continue working. Extensive corrections, improvements, and additions to the API documentation, including new public APIs from OpenSSL that had no pre-existing documentation. Added support for automatic library initialization in libcrypto, libssl, and libtls. Support for pthread_once or a compatible equivalent is now required of the target operating system. As a side-effect, minimum Windows support is Vista or higher."
The new version,NetBSD 8.0, included support for USB 3, reproducible builds, in-kernel audio mixing and address layout randomization for improved security. "USB stack rework, USB3 support added. In-kernel audio mixer (audio_system(9)). Reproducible builds (MKREPRO, see mk.conf(5)). Full userland debug information (MKDEBUG, see mk.conf(5)) available. While most install media do not come with them (for size reasons), the debug and xdebug sets can be downloaded and extracted as needed later. They provide full symbol information for all base system and X binaries and libraries and allow better error reporting and (userland) crash analysis. PaX MPROTECT (W^X) memory protection enforced by default on some architectures with fine-grained memory protection and suitable ELF formats: i386, amd64, evbarm, landisk, pmax. PaX ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization) enabled by default on: i386, amd64, evbarm, landisk, pmax, sparc64. Position independent executables by default for userland on: i386, amd64, arm, m68k, mips, sh3, sparc64."
18.10.2018

OpenBSD 6.4 is ready

OpenBSD is a security-focused operating system with a design that emphasises correct code and accurate documentation. The project has released OpenBSD 6.4 which includes many driver improvements, a feature which allows OpenSSH's configuration files to use service names instead of port numbers, and the Clang compiler will now replace some risky ROP instructions with safe alternatives. Perhaps the most interesting feature is the unveil() system call which allows applications to sandbox themselves, blocking their own access to the file system. This is especially useful for programs which operate on unknown data which may try to exploit or crash the application: "New unveil(2) system call to restrict file system access of the calling process to the specified files and directories. It is most powerful when properly combined with privilege separation and pledge(2)." Other security improvements include: "Implemented MAP_STACK option for mmap(2); new RETGUARD security mechanism on amd64 and arm64 - use per-function random cookies to protect access to function return instructions, making them harder to use in ROP gadgets...."
